Peppermint and Hot Chocolate Smoothie

Peppermint and Chocolate … arguably, one of the best flavour combinations during those cold days of winter holiday season. This creamy, hot, and cozy smoothie will not only warm up your bellies on chilly nights but is also good for your hair, skin, and nails. Naturally caffeine-free, this is a perfect drink right before bedtime.

For a stronger peppermint flavour, sometimes I steep two tea bags. I used 70% dark chocolate, but you can use whatever grade you prefer. A lower percentage of chocolate will make the tea sweeter; a higher percentage of chocolate will make it slightly bitter.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond or cashew milk
  • 2 bananas (I like to use frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons dark chocolate or unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1-2 leaves mint
  • 1 cup peppermint tea (warm)
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Place all the ingredients in your blender and mix it until smooth. Pour into glass and enjoy it.

Almond milk is rich in vitamin E and vitamin D, low in calories, may strengthen your bones and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Bananas are a great source of fibre, vitamins C, potassium and various antioxidants. They may support digestive health, aid weight loss, and heart health. Manganese and magnesium in bananas promote the functioning of reproductive organs to their optimum.

Dark chocolate improves the blood circulation to your brain and heart. It has a massive amount of antioxidants, which are great for the body in general, as they help protect your cells from inflammation and boost your immune and cardiovascular health.

Use quality dark chocolate made from 60-70 percent cocoa or unsweetened cocoa powder available in your local store or on line in places like Amazon

Mint leaves are high in vitamin A and antioxidants. They boost your immune system, treat stomach problems, and aid in the treatment of allergies and asthma. Mint leaves promote acne-free skin, improve oral health, and relieve morning sickness and nausea.

Peppermint tea may help with digestion, breath freshening, and concentration. It may also help with allergy symptoms, headaches, clogged airways, and sleeping.

Honey is an excellent natural sweetener that also functions as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant agent. A spoonful of honey in the morning will give you an instant kick and energy boost, but taking honey in the evening will not only give you a good night’s sleep but will also help with digestion and relaxation of mind and body.
