I make this Banana and Licorice smoothie very often during the winter time. And it’s not only because the health benefits are legendary, but also it’s easy to make and I really like the taste.
Ingredients:
- 2 bananas (peeled)
- 1/4 teaspoon licorice root powder
- 1 tablespoon vanilla powder
- 1/2 teaspoon withania root powder
- 4-5 leaves kale
- 2 cups soy or almond milk
- 1 tablespoon honey
Blend all the above ingredients in your blender until smooth. Enjoy.
You can add more honey to make it sweeter. The raw kale is super healthy but the flavour is strong, so to mellow it you can add more banana or milk.
Bananas are a great source of fibre, vitamins C, potassium and various antioxidants. They may support digestive health, aid weight loss, and heart health. Manganese and magnesium in bananas promote the functioning of reproductive organs to their optimum.

Vanilla powder is good for your heart and may help reduce cholesterol levels. It’s also used to promote hair growth and healthy skin, treat anxiety and depression, speed healing process and reduce inflammation.
Withania somnifera, also known as Ashwagandha (winter cherry), has been used for many centuries in traditional medicine as an antioxidant and as an anti-inflammatory agent. Studies have shown that Withania roots may help to relieve stress and anxiety, support immune system, increase muscle and strength, boost fertility and testosterone levels in men and support heart health.
Kale is high in antioxidants and rich in fiber content which can help improve digestion and ease constipation. Loaded with Vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, Alpha-linolenic acid, and omega-3 fatty acid, kale can improve your eye and bone health and boost your immune system.
Almond milk is rich in vitamin E and vitamin D, low in calories, may strengthen your bones and reduce the risk of heart disease.
Honey is an excellent natural sweetener that also functions as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant agent. A spoonful of honey in the morning will give you an instant kick and energy boost, but taking honey in the evening will not only give you a good night’s sleep but will also help with digestion and relaxation of mind and body.
