Pineapple Smoothie

Pineapple Smoothie is my friend’s favourite, especially during long Canadian cold winter days. This drink will not only make you feel like your are on vacation on Caribbean Islands but they are also rich with Bromelain, an enzyme that relieves congestion, suppresses coughs, and soothes a sore throat.

My freezer is always full of chopped fruits including pineapples and bananas. Frozen fruits make smoothie thicker and creamier plus it’s so much easier to grab a few chunks and throw them into the blender. This way, you can make any smoothie in no time.

I like adding a protein powder to my smoothies for two reasons; to enhance the flavour and to add a healthy dose of protein. My favourite is chocolate flavour but my wife love vanilla so most of the time I use Vanilla Protein Powder (happy wife, happy life), which is available in most of your local stores or on Amazon.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups 100% pure pineapple juice
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks (I use frozen)
  • 1 banana (peeled)
  • 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon your favourite protein powder (optional)

Blend until completely smooth. For easy blending add pineapple juice first, then add the frozen fruits. Also, add honey on top of the fruits so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of your blender. Pour into the glass and enjoy.

Pineapples are high in nutrients and contain antioxidants that fight disease. They may help boost immunity and suppress inflammation, as well as aid digestion, reduce cancer risk, and help relieve arthritis symptoms.

Bananas are high in fibre, vitamins C and potassium, and antioxidants. They may help with digestion, weight loss, and heart health. Bananas contain manganese and magnesium, which help reproductive organs function optimally.

When it comes to yoghurt, Greek yoghurt is widely regarded as the most nutritious option. Because of how it is made, it is naturally higher in protein and important nutrients. It may benefit your heart health, strengthen immune, promote weight management and digestive health.

Honey is a great natural sweetener that also functions as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant agent. A spoonful of honey in the morning will give you an instant kick and energy boost. Taking honey in the evening will not only give you a good night’s sleep but will also help with digestion and relaxation of your mind and body.

Everyone loves the aroma of cinnamon. It is considered a superfood because contains tons of antioxidants and may help lower blood sugar, boost metabolism, reduce inflammation and it’s great for your skin.

Chia seeds are incredibly rich in nutrients, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids which may promote heart health, support strong bones, and help with blood sugar regulation. They are loaded with antioxidants, high in fibre and proteins and can benefit those trying to lose weight.
